Canoe Rental

In addition to guided tours, you can also rent our canoes and set out on your own. We’ll bring the boats to the launch site and pick them up again at the end of your trip. It’s all included in the price. We’ll plan the route together with you—tailored entirely to your preferences and fitness level. We’ll provide you with all the necessary equipment—from paddles and waterproof packing gear to river maps. And, of course, you’ll receive proper instruction on how to handle the boats and respect the natural environment.

Our Boats

We use three- and four-person Canadian canoes, which can also be paddled by two people. Unlike kayaks, Canadian canoes are “Native American boats” that use single-bladed paddles. By the way, we always paddle downstream. Children, including toddlers, can participate in canoe trips at virtually any age when accompanied by an adult. Life jackets are mandatory for children but optional for adults.

What to Bring

For canoeing on the Ilmenau, you should wear regular, comfortable casual clothing. Be sure to pack a change of clothes, a rain jacket if needed, and plenty of food, because paddling works up an appetite. A cell phone is recommended for coordinating the transfer and, like your clothes, can be stored safely in our waterproof panniers.

Emmendorf – Bad Bevensen (on the Ilmenau River)

Meet at 10:30 a.m. at the campground (bring your own car) or at 11:00 a.m. at the launch site in Emmendorf, Brückenstraße.

The destination is Bad Bevensen, Glockeneichenstraße (near the old wastewater treatment plant), arriving between approximately 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.; the total distance is about 12 km.

On this tour, you can relax and unwind, although there are also many sections here that require teamwork to navigate. In some places, the forest extends far into the river along sharp bends. During the tour, you’ll often have an unobstructed view of the idyllic countryside. After a while, a tall bridge comes into view: steep stairs lead up to the imposing Elbe Side Canal. The second break is in Klein Bünstorf, where you can take a short walk through the heath. At the end, you’ll paddle through Bad Bevensen, past the spa gardens, and the tour ends behind the Rosenbad.
